I’m a bit of a home-show connoisseur. We recently cut the cord at our house and are living without cable but it’s given me time to browse Netflix a little deeper and find a replacement for my love, HGTV’s Fixer Upper. If you’ve done the same and need a little home show filler check out these three Netflix originals.
I’m sure you’ve heard all about Marie Kondo and her magical cleaning techniques. If you have resisted watching it though now is the time! Spring cleaning is just around the corner. The first episode can feel a bit awkward as you see Marie challenging a couple to manage their mess and the episodes can begin to feel a bit redundant as you get a few in but ultimately the show does have a few helpful tips. If you watch it will at least explain to you why people keep asking if things “spark joy?”
I think this show was made for me. I can’t resist designer Genevieve Gorder and now she’s teamed up with real estate expert Peter Lorimer to help homeowners rent out rooms or even whole houseboats out to visitors to make a little extra money. Gorder’s impeccable taste pairs well with Lorimer’s knowledge of the rental market. If you’ve been thinking about flipping your own home into a little moneymaker this show is a must watch.
If you’re into more of a Bravo-style, reality TV version of House Hunters this is for you. You get to see some gorgeous million dollar homes and get a little bit of reality TV drama from the agents in the 30 minute episodes. Who knows how much of it is real but that’s the fun of those TV shows isn’t it? Don’t get me wrong, I love to see the inside of a beautiful California mansion but there’s just a touch too much drama and not enough homes in this one for me.
